SEO-Friendly WordPress Website: Acceptance Checklist
The short answer
An SEO-friendly WordPress site should make useful information easy to publish, understand and find. Test those tasks before signing off the build. A plugin list, polished homepage or SEO-ready label is not proof that the site meets your needs.

Try the editing tasks your team will actually perform
Ask a future website editor to complete ordinary work using the permission they will receive. Do not let a developer demonstration stand in for the editor’s experience. A task may reasonably need developer support; the important point is knowing which task, why and at what ongoing cost.
| Task | Pass | Needs development or clarification |
|---|---|---|
| Change an approved service limitation. | The editor changes the text in the intended place without changing unrelated pages. | The text is embedded in an inaccessible global component or the effect is unclear. |
| Add an article and a relevant service link. | The editor can create the agreed format and check the destination. | Publishing requires an undocumented custom process. |
| Replace an approved image and its description. | The correct image appears in the intended layout with appropriate descriptive text. | The change breaks another component or requires unknown license access. |
WordPress permissions vary by role and capability. Document what the intended account can do on this installation rather than assuming that “WordPress is editable” answers every handover question.
Use information that is difficult to fit
Test the design with a detailed service condition, a real product specification and a substantial comparison. These are better tests than short placeholder paragraphs. Use approved company information or clearly labeled demonstration material; never invent a certificate or testimonial to fill a card.
- Long service condition: check that an important exclusion remains visible, readable and near the related offer—not clipped or hidden because the card was designed for two lines.
- Product specification: check labels, units and relationships. A value must not appear under the wrong heading when columns rearrange.
- Comparison table: inspect a narrow screen. The reader must still associate each condition with the correct option and reach information beyond the first column.
When a test fails, record the content, device or viewport used, expected behavior and owner. “Looks wrong” is harder to fix than “the exclusion disappears below the collapsed text, and there is no control to reveal it.”
Walk from a buyer’s question to the next step
Choose a realistic entry page and follow the task without returning to the menu after every answer. For example: service overview → specific service → comparison guide → inquiry instructions. Each page should make sense independently while offering the next relevant detail.
| Check | Evidence to record | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| The link promises the right answer. | The actual link text and destination; a link called “pricing” must not lead only to a generic sales page. | Editor. |
| The action is realistic. | The page explains what to send and does not promise an instant quote when assessment is required. | Business approver. |
| The inquiry reaches the business. | An authorized test, receipt confirmation and intended follow-up owner. | Website and contact owners. |
| The mobile journey remains usable. | A recorded pass or specific issue for the detailed page, table and inquiry path. | Design/implementation owner. |
A visible form is not proof of delivery. Also test the destination and handling of the message without putting private customer information into the test.
Know what an existing site must retain
Before approving replacements, inventory useful pages, downloads, images and customer resources. Record the current address, purpose, person responsible for the facts and proposed treatment: keep, update, consolidate or review for retirement. A quiet page can still support an important customer task.
If addresses change, the implementation team needs an appropriate transition plan. Google’s site-move guidance covers URL mapping, redirects and monitoring. Do not treat the content inventory as authorization to delete or redirect pages automatically.
Accept the responsibilities as well as the pages
| Area | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Editing and access | Accounts provided, approved tasks, instructions and remaining developer dependencies. |
| Domain and hosting | Account holder, billing responsibility and access process. |
| Licensed tools | Theme/plugin names, license holder, renewals and transfer restrictions. |
| Care after launch | Any agreed fixes, updates, backups and maintenance, with scope and cost. |
| Continuing SEO | Who creates, approves, publishes and reviews future content; a build alone does not settle this. |
Using WordPress does not automatically include these tasks at no extra cost. Set out the agreed responsibilities in the proposal. For the broader project, use the handoff guide; to compare providers, use the WordPress agency checklist. The test is whether your company can use and maintain the agreed website—not whether someone has promised a ranking.
