How Many SEO Articles Does Your Company Need?

Published 4 min read

The short answer

Publish as many SEO articles as you can make useful, accurate and relevant to your buyers. Start with unanswered questions and your team’s review capacity. An annual article allowance is a limit, not a reason to publish the maximum.

Count decisions before counting articles

Inventory the pages close to a purchase. Can someone understand the offer, compare the relevant choices, inspect credible evidence and prepare an appropriate inquiry? If not, a new general blog post may be less useful than a stronger commercial page.

Illustrative content inventory
Gap Action Why
A service page does not explain client responsibilities. Add a substantial section. The answer belongs with the offer; a new URL would split essential buying information.
Buyers compare a template website with custom design. Create a decision guide if the current site lacks one. The tradeoffs need more space than a brief service paragraph.
Two guides repeat the same provider-selection criteria. Review for consolidation. Different wording is not a different task.
A proposed specialist article lacks approved technical facts. Defer until an appropriate source and reviewer are available. Production capacity does not create expertise.

This process can turn many keyword variations into a smaller set of deep assignments. It can also reveal that one broad page is trying to do several incompatible jobs. The aim is neither maximum pages nor minimum pages.

Include the work your own team must do

Writing capacity is only part of the picture. Briefing, fact-checking, revisions and publishing also take time. Estimate each responsibility using your own experience, then leave capacity for unexpected work.

Fictional reviewer-capacity calculation; not an industry benchmark
Company task per article Illustrative time
Approve the brief and supply sources. 15 minutes.
Check technical and business claims. 25 minutes.
Review consolidated corrections. 10 minutes.
Approve the final page and publishing check. 10 minutes.
Total company time 60 minutes per article.

If that reviewer has four hours available in the month, four articles is the arithmetic ceiling under these assumptions—not a safe commitment regardless of interruptions. Reserving one hour for unexpected revisions leaves three hours of planned capacity. A more complex assignment may need more time or another specialist. Measure the first few pieces rather than copying these numbers into a contract.

Choose a useful mix of work

Not every production slot needs a new article. Imagine the inventory reveals one unclear service, one outdated requirement guide and one unanswered comparison. A sensible batch could be a service-page improvement, a refresh and a new comparison, each with a different acceptance test.

Evidence preparation can also be the right assignment. Organizing an approved demonstration or explaining a real project’s measurement limits may improve buyer understanding more than another broad definition. Do not manufacture a case study simply to complete the calendar.

Use an individual brief for each substantial task. State whether it is new writing, an update or consolidation so production totals do not conceal what happened.

Read an annual allowance literally

Stormy Increment’s annual Google SEO Growth Plan includes up to 300 English articles per year. “Up to” describes a limit; it does not mean every company should publish 300 pieces or that the limit establishes an appropriate monthly rhythm.

Before buying a volume-based scope, ask how an article is counted, how updates and rewrites are treated, who approves topics and what happens to unused capacity. Those rules must come from the actual agreement. Do not infer rollover, refunds, additional languages or unlimited revisions from a headline quantity.

Expand when the process and questions justify it

Signal Useful decision
More distinct buyer questions remain, briefs are approved and review is reliable. Consider expanding at a pace the team can sustain.
Drafts repeat answers already on the site. Stop commissioning duplicates and reassess the page map.
Facts remain unresolved across several drafts. Improve the source material or reviewer access before adding volume.
Readers or sales teams repeatedly misunderstand an existing answer. Improve that answer rather than assume another article will fix it.
Search data is limited or inconclusive. Keep the uncertainty visible; do not invent a successful publishing frequency.

Google’s content guidance does not prescribe a preferred word count and cautions against publishing merely to appear fresh. There is no universal article quota to satisfy. Choose work the company can support, apply a real review process and increase output only when there are useful assignments ready.
