SEO Content Review Checklist

Published 4 min read

The short answer

Review SEO content for accuracy, usefulness and the decision it helps readers make. Keywords and polished English cannot fix a wrong answer or invented evidence. Apply the same standard to agency, freelance, in-house and AI-assisted work.

Check the assignment before editing sentences

Write down the intended reader and question. Then read the opening, headings and conclusion without relying on the title. Does the page answer the question, or merely discuss the subject around it?

For example, a fictional buyer guide called “How to choose a website approach” spends most of its space explaining what WordPress is. The problem is not vocabulary or polish. The buyer needs conditions, differences and a decision process. Return to the brief before line-editing an answer built for another task.

Also check whether an existing page already answers the same question. If so, decide whether this is an update, a genuinely distinct guide or an unnecessary duplicate.

Keep sources for important claims

Illustrative claim-review record—not customer evidence
Claim Evidence required Decision owner Review outcome
A product works under a stated operating condition. Approved specification or documented test with relevant conditions. Product expert. Hold if the source does not support that condition.
A quoted fee includes maintenance. The approved offer or actual contract scope. Commercial owner. Do not infer it from a service label.
A project increased inquiries. Defined inquiry records, period and measurement limitations. Authorized data owner. A search-click graph is insufficient.
An example requires four hours of review. A clear statement that the number is an illustrative assumption. Editor. Accept as an example, not an industry benchmark.
A reviewer has a certification. Verified qualification and permission to publish it. Named person/business approver. Remove if invented or unsupported.

Open each external source and check that it supports the claim. A citation to a general homepage is not evidence of a specific technical rule. Show the dates, units and conditions behind each measurement. Label estimates separately from achieved results.

Ask whether natural language is also useful

Compare these fictional sentences:

Vague: “Our flexible website solutions support your business growth.”

Useful: “A template may fit when the standard page layouts can explain your offer and support the inquiry path. If your product comparison requires a layout the template cannot support, ask for a targeted change or a custom-design assessment.”

The second version gives conditions and a next decision. It does not promise better rankings or claim that every custom request can be delivered. Read it for three qualities: is the statement true, does the intended reader learn something and can they use the answer?

For worldwide readers, define acronyms, make currency and market assumptions visible and avoid treating one country’s rules as universal. A readable score or keyword-density target cannot establish correctness or usefulness.

Make a publication decision

Three fictional review findings
Issue Decision Owner and next action Recheck condition
A case statement says revenue rose, but only click data exists. Hold. Editor removes the revenue inference; data owner supplies any authorized supporting record. The revised claim stops at the metric actually evidenced.
The correct answer is buried below a generic introduction. Revise. Writer brings the answer and conditions forward. An unfamiliar reader can explain the decision after the opening.
An illustrative comparison is clearly labeled, accurate and fulfills its brief. Approve. Named approver accepts the text and checks the final page. Links, labels and meaning remain intact in the layout.

An unsupported material promise or confidential information is not a minor wording issue. Record the reason, owner and next action. Avoid “needs improvement” when you can specify the missing fact or failed task.

Review the page people will read

After the text is accepted, inspect headings, comparison tables, long conditions and source links in the actual layout. Check a small screen and follow the proposed next step. A link or button must lead where its wording promises; an inquiry instruction must match what the business actually does.

AI assistance does not change the approval standard. Google’s generative-content guidance stresses accuracy and review. Be particularly alert for plausible inventions about clients, people, prices and permissions. Do not invent an author or expert reviewer to make an article look trustworthy.

Keep the review log with the approved source information so the same error does not return next month. If you are buying English writing support, agree who checks business facts, who edits the explanation and who authorizes publication. Those are separate responsibilities even when one person handles more than one.
